Supply chain consulting and integration firm TranSystems (Booth 4279) and a driver for an Indy Racing League (IRL) team it sponsors see similarities between lean supply chains and successful IRL teams.
At a Tuesday press conference at ProMat, IRL driver Justin Wilson and Scott Pribula, president of TranSystems Management and Supply Chain Consulting Group, discussed the need to be efficient with logistics. Like the rest of the economy, said Wilson, race car teams have had to do more with less, and can no longer simply throw more people and cash at having parts like tires and gear ratios in place for races. “The teams that tend to win are the ones that are the most efficient and organized,” Wilson said.
Wilson was on hand to discuss the Racing for Kids Foundation, which Wilson is involved in and which TranSystems supports both financially and by volunteer efforts. Under the program, Racing For Kids drivers visit children in hospitals near where they race.
Pribula and Wilson agreed that being involved in the program has been uplifting. “It’s great to see the change in these children’s faces [during visits],” said Pribula.
