Signode showcases end-of-line efficiencies

Signode (Booth 5223) demonstrated multiple end-of-line packaging solutions, including its Octopus Rotary Ring Wrapper. The company offers many types of sealing, wrapping and storage solutions, including its Storfast automated storage and retrieval system (AS/RS).

During a booth visit, Don Overberg, director of strategic accounts, automation solutions for Signode, explained how Storfast, a cart-based AS/RS with software for managing the storage, and the Octopus ring wrapper can be combined to create a highly space and labor efficient material flow.

The AS/RS, which is widely deployed in Europe and now has a couple of deployments in North America, maximizes the use of space with configurable rules for managing the inventory, while the Octopus offers automated wrapping that can be positioned in line for goods entering or leaving the AS/RS. The automation of both saves on labor. The Octopus also has a cutting capability that can decrease materials consumption by 25% versus some other types of wrapping equipment.

“With the Storfast solution and an Octopus in-line, you can fully maximize efficiencies and gain significant material reductions,” said Overberg.
