Swisslog, a leading supplier of automation and software solutions for material transport and medication management, is marking the company’s 100th year of business.
With the theme “100 Years of Innovation,” Swisslog is celebrating this milestone with a full year of customer and employee events that honor the company’s history and contributions to changing the way healthcare works through automation.
Addressing employees at a recent company meeting, Swisslog North America president Stephan Sonderegger said, “We are honored to be celebrating our 100th year as a company with a history of technology development that established our reputation for performance and reliability. I believe our future is even more exciting.”
To commemorate the anniversary, Swisslog employees are assembling materials for a time capsule – to be sealed at its company picnic on August 15 – that recognizes the significant events of the company’s past and give future generations a sense of the culture, people and promise that shaped the company through its first century.
Swisslog began in 1915 as Grover Brothers and Wood in Detroit, Mich., servicing pneumatic tube systems. The company expanded to include tube system manufacturing, installation and service in consumer and manufacturing settings for moving cash, small parts and documents. With the first hospital installation of a pneumatic tube system in the early 1950s, Swisslog added healthcare as an industry. eventually focusing on hospital automation in the 1980s. Following its acquisition by Swisslog AG, the company added pharmacy automation to its portfolio.
Today, Swisslog Healthcare Solutions has facility-wide and pharmacy automation systems installed in more than 3,000 hospitals worldwide and focuses on improving workflows through efficient material transport and medication management.
