According to a recent survey of distribution center (DC) operations professionals by Peerless Research Group (PRG), four out of five respondents were involved with channel fulfillment for either internal sales organizations or brick and mortar stores, but four in 10 also fulfill orders for their own e-commerce site.
And while operations continue to adjust to the omni-channel challenge, it should come as little surprise that the industry is still looking for ways to excel at fulfilling orders at the item or “each” level, a shift that’s created the need to fulfill large volumes of much smaller orders on a profitable and efficient basis.
