Transplace brings supply chain veteran Bentz into the fold to lead consulting practice

Latest Material Handling News

Non asset-based third-party logistics (3PL) services and logistics technology services provider Transplace said today that Brooks Bentz has joined the company in a newly-created role as president of Transplace Consulting in conjunction with the launch of the company’s new North American consulting services practice. In his role, Bentz will report to Transplace CEO Tom Sanderson.

Bentz is far from a stranger to the transportation and logistics sectors, with more than four decades worth of experience, including: 21 years with Andersen Consulting/Accenture, where he was a managing director in supply chain management, responsible for supply chain transportation; vice president of intermodal for Burlington Northern Railroad, where he developed BN America, the company’s domestic container operation; president and CEO of Ameritrans Corporation, the 3PL subsidiary of IU International; CEO of Trans-Star Trucking, a regional LTL/TL motor carrier; and general manager, intermodal, for Boston & Maine Railroad, and founder; COO of BMX, B&M’s motor carrier subsidiary. Bentz also serves as an adjunct professor of supply chain in the graduate transportation program at the University of Denver and a member of the board of directors.

Bentz has had a long relationship with LM over the years, during which time he has been quoted in news stories, written thought leadership pieces, and participated in Webcasts.

“We are pleased to have a recognized industry expert with the track record and talent of Brooks join the Transplace leadership team,” said Transplace’s Sanderson. “We have provided world class consulting services to customers in the past, and the addition of Brooks leverages these strengths, providing exceptional growth opportunity and enhanced credibility for our consulting practice. Combining his background and experience with the deep and proven logistics expertise of Transplace will deliver an industry-leading logistics consulting, analytics and market intelligence practice.”

Transplace has done consulting work over the last several years but not under the auspices of a formal group within the company as was announced with this week’s official hiring of Bentz.

“Tom really wanted to grow this part of the business,” Bentz told LM. “My aim is classic supply chain consulting work, and a large focus will be on transportation, I am sure, as well as general supply chain work. I think it is going to be very good and want it to be very high quality with a high level of talent and deliver really good work and grow at a moderate rate that makes sense for the business. I am really excited about it. I have known Tom a long time and really like and respect him and his capabilities and vision and am really glad to be part of Transplace. I am going to be out recruiting the best supply chain talent I can find to help go out and do this kind of work. At this stage of my career, this fits very well, and I am excited about it.”
