Trelleborg acquires industrial tire manufacturer in Brazil

Standard Tyres Group is a supplier to locally-based, global manufacturers of materials handling vehicles.

Through its business area Trelleborg Wheel Systems, Trelleborg has signed an agreement and finalized the acquisition of Standard Tyres Group, a Brazil-based privately owned industrial tire manufacturer.

With its head office in Lorena and its manufacturing facility in Feira de Santana, the company is a market leader in industrial tires in Brazil and a main supplier to locally based, global original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) of materials handling vehicles. Annual sales amounted to approximately $11.5 million in 2014. This bolt-on acquisition is part of Trelleborg’s strategy to strengthen its positions in attractive market segments.

“Brazil has the largest materials handling vehicles market in South America, with all major OEMs represented in the country,” said Maurizio Vischi, president of the Trelleborg Wheel Systems business area. “The acquisition not only provides Trelleborg with access to the OEM market in the region, but it also strengthens Trelleborg as a global supplier of solid tires to major, global OEMs. In addition, the acquisition will facilitate the expansion of sales into the rest of South America.”
