UPS said late last month it officially completed its acquisition of Marken, a provider of global supply chain solutions for the life sciences industry based in Durham, NC and London, England. The acquisition was originally announced by UPS in early November, coming a little more than three months after saying it had expanded logistics capabilities for clinical trials. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The average price per gallon of diesel gasoline increased 3.4 cents this week to a 2016 high of $2.527 per gallon, according to weekly data issued by the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA). The previous 2016 high was reached the week of December 12, when it was at $2.493 per gallon.

Reverse logistics processes will be looked to more than ever for retail shippers, with industrial real estate firm CBRE calculating that the total value of returned goods purchased online during the 2016 holiday season will be between $14 billion to almost $29 billion (out of total holiday e-commerce sales of $95 billion). That was a key takeaway from the firm’s recently report, entitled: “Holiday Stress: E-commerce and the Rapidly Rising Rate of Return.”
