Coming off of a 2.7-cent increase to $2.54 per gallon the week of December 26, which was a 2016 high, the average weekly price shot up another 4.6 cents this week to $2.586 per gallon, according to data issued this week by the Department of Energy’s Energy Information Administration (EIA).

The PMI, the index used by the ISM to measure growth, came in at 54.7 in December, a 1.3 percent gain over November, as well as turning in the highest PMI reading since December 2014’s 54.9. December’s PMI is the highest over the last 12 months and is 3.2 percent above the 12-month average of 51.5, with the over all economy growing for 91 months in a row.

UPS said late last month it officially completed its acquisition of Marken, a provider of global supply chain solutions for the life sciences industry based in Durham, NC and London, England. The acquisition was originally announced by UPS in early November, coming a little more than three months after saying it had expanded logistics capabilities for clinical trials. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
