AAR reports mixed volumes for week ending February 20

The Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported this week that rail carload and intermodal volumes remained mixed for the week ending February 20.

Carloads dropped 5.7 percent annually to 244,747, which edged out the week ending February 13 at 244,434 and the week ending February 6 at 241,680.

Five of the ten commodities tracked by the AAR were up annually, with motor vehicles and parts up 30.7 percent to 19,620 and miscellaneous carloads up 22.5 percent to 8,376.

Intermodal containers and trailers were up 18.2 percent annually at 252,463, which was below the week ending February 13 at 260,814 and the week ending February 6 at 262,830.

For the first seven weeks of 2016 total cumulative rail carload and intermodal volume was down 4.4 percent at 3,514,531 carloads and intermodal units.
