Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits selects Westfalia Technologies for automated storage

Project at Las Vegas, DC, for an automated reserve storage system to begin in 2024, with a design based on four storage and retrieval machines (SRMs). The system will also leverage Westfalia's software.

Westfalia Technologies Inc., a leading provider of automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS) solutions, has announced ts collaboration with Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits (SGWS) to deploy unit-load AS/RS technology in its newly expanded Las Vegas, NV warehouse. The premium beverage distribution will implement a reserve storage system for beer, wine, and spirit products.

Westfalia’s multi-deep high-density AS/RS system is designed to streamline the storage and retrieval process, ensuring optimal efficiency in managing inventory and fulfilling orders. Westfalia explained that with the system's unique Satellite design, the AS/RS can handle many different pallet types commonly found in the beer industry without needing a support or system board. This feature allows for more seamless integration with an automated case picking system as well as simplifying full pallet order fulfillment, the company added.

According to Wesfalia, the projectis is slated to begin construction late 2024, with projected go-live in 2025. The system will have 21,366 pallet positions.

At the heart of the solution are four multi-deep Satellite storage and retrieval machines (SRMs), a complete racking system, input and output pallet conveying system, and electrical controls. Wesfalia noted that its components work in harmony to ensure seamless integration and optimal performance, meeting the high standards set by SGWS. Additionnally, Wesfalia noted, the solution incorporates Westfalia’s Savanna.NET Warehouse Management System. The system handles overall warehouse control and management, and interfaces with the operation's ERP system.

“We are thrilled to be chosen by Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits for this groundbreaking project in Las Vegas,” said Dan Labell, President and owner at Westfalia Technologies, Inc. “Our advanced AS/RS technology is tailored to meet the unique needs of beverage distribution, and we are confident that it will significantly elevate the efficiency and performance of Southern Glazer’s operations.” “Southern Glazer’s is excited to continue our long-term relationship with Westfalia Technologies, which has proven to benefit our customers, suppliers, and employees,” said Mark Booth, VP – Supply Chain Technology for Southern Glazer’s. “We’re confident that our ongoing investments will set our service capabilities apart from the competition, while enabling us to enhance employee skills, improve efficiency, and ensure safety for our employees.”
