Commerce reported a 0.6% increase from June to July at $478.9 billion and a 4.2% annual increase. The NRF reported that June retail sales, excluding automobiles, gas stations, and restaurants, were up 0.6% from June to July, tripling June’s revised 0.2% growth rate, while July sales headed up 3.5% annually.

June retail sales data issued today by the United States Department of Commerce and the National Retail Federation (NRF) was somewhat muted.

The NRF reported that April retail sales, excluding automobiles, gas stations, and restaurants, saw a 0.3 percent seasonally-adjusted increase over March, and were up 3 percent on an unadjusted annual basis, and the Department of Commerce reported a 0.4 percent increase from March to April at $474.9 million and a 4.5 percent gain over April 2016.

Commerce reported that February retail sales were up 0.6 percent compared to January, and the NRF reported that February retail sales, excluding automobiles, gas stations, and restaurants, saw a 0.2 percent seasonally-adjusted increase compared to January.

Commerce reported that January retail sales were up 0.2 percent compared to December and saw a 5.6 percent annual gain at $472.1 billion. The NRF reported that retail sales, excluding automobiles, gas stations, and restaurants, headed up 3.8 percent annually in January and were up 0.4 percent on a seasonally-adjusted basis compared to a very strong December.

It appears that holiday shoppers did their best to support the economy over the home stretch of 2016 as retail sales for the month of December showed gains, according to data issued by the United States Department of Commerce and the National Retail Federation (NRF).

Commerce reported that November retail sales were up 0.1 percent over October, following a 0.6 percent (revised from 0.8 percent) increase from September to October, at $465.5 billion. And NRF reported that retail sales, excluding automobiles, gas stations, and restaurants, were up 0.1 percent from October to November.
