Akro-Mils, a North American leader in storage, organization and transport products, has announced its 70th anniversary as a company.
Akro-Mils was founded in Akron, Ohio, on Oct. 4, 1946, by Louis and Isidore Myers. Akro-Mils is named for Akron, plus the brothers, Myer, Isidore, and Louis, along with their original last name, Schneiderman. Some of the first products manufactured by Akro-Mils are steel cabinets with plastic drawers for the consumer market. The 1960s saw an expansion of plastic boxes and other small parts containers manufactured from polystyrene.
In 1972 the company introduced its flagship product, the AkroBin hanging and stacking bin.
