CEMA: Conveyor index up again in April

The Conveyor Equipment Manufacturers Association (CEMA) reported that its April 2011 Booked Orders Index was up 27 points or 14% from March 2011’s Index.


The Conveyor Equipment Manufacturers Association (CEMA) reported that its April 2011 Booked Orders Index was 219. Index in April is up 27 points or 14% from March 2011’s Index of 192 (1990=100). The April 2011 Index represents an increase of 72% from the April 2010 Index of 127.

CEMA’s baseline calculation uses the year 1990 as a comparison. Numbers to the right of the equation show the current state of the conveyor industry as compared to 1990. Figures above 100 indicate growth; while anything less indicates a contraction in the industry.

April Booked Orders Indexes were 242 for Bulk Handling Equipment and 218 for Unit
Handling Equipment (1990=100). Since Bulk Handling Systems booked and billed sales are reported quarterly and are averaged back to the two preceding months, the booked and billed indexes for non-quarter ending months for Bulk Handling Equipment and Category X, total of all categories, are adjusted quarterly.

The Twelve-Month Index for Booked Orders was 154 in April. Index in April represents an increase of 5% from March 2011’s Twelve-Month Index of 146.

The CEMA Billed Sales (shipments) Index was 155 in April. Index in April represents a decrease of 7% from March 2011’s Index of 167. The April 2011 Index represents an increase of 35% from the April 2010 Index of 115.

April Billed Sales Indexes were 247 for Bulk Handling Equipment and 138 for Unit Handling Equipment.

The Twelve-Month Index for Billed Sales was 142 in April. Index in April represents an increase of 2% from March 2011’s Twelve-Month Index of 139.

Conveyor index up 14% in March
The Conveyor Equipment Manufacturers Association reported that its March 2011 Booked Orders Index was 192. Index in March is up 23 points or 14% from February 2011’s Index of 169.
