Fixed path: Belt curve creates space-efficient solution

A 90-degree conveyor averts more complex equipment reconfiguration.

Agricola San Clemente, a producer of Chilean fresh fruit and juices, operates facilities all over Chile that process apples, grapes, cherries, tangerines and avocados for sale in the United States, Europe, Asia, Canada and Latin America. The company recently upgraded its production facility in Renaico, Chile, with a conveyor belt curve enabling improved productivity in much less space.

When the company installed a new processing line for apples at the Renaico facility, the new belt curve helped move apples 90 degrees from the sorting system to the wash area. Francisco Amezaga, cold storage manager, said the space between the two areas was too limited for conventional conveyor equipment and might require integrating multiple conveyor lines.

Instead, after determining the optimal position of the gear motor, the new system was configured and quickly installed.

“By installing this extremely adaptable and space-efficient belt curve, we were able to avoid modifying previously installed systems and equipment,” Amezaga says. “It has reduced costs and time of installation, as well as facility downtime.”
