Frost & Sullivan: Evident need for efficient cybersecurity innovations in every sector

Cloud computing, big data, wireless communication and the Internet of Things (IoT) increase exposure to cyber-risks.

The increasing number of connected devices is multiplying the probability of cyber-attacks on companies across sectors, according to new research from Frost & Sullivan.

The exposure is compelling organisations to adopt cyber-security solutions in order to secure computing resources, information, networks and applications. As such, the research suggests innovations will be directed towards fortifying sophisticated technologies such as cloud computing, big data, wireless communication, and the Internet of Things (IoT).

The research finds that in addition to comprehensive security solutions, the trend towards developing various layers of cyber-security for attacks aimed at specific network layers has gathered pace. Securing perimeter, network, endpoint, application and data is particularly crucial due to the emergence of new threats on specific targets.

“The deployment of IoT, especially, will open up innumerable attack surfaces for cyber attackers to leverage,” said technical insights research analyst Debarun Guha Thakurta. “As a result, endpoint and wireless network security for IoT will leap to the forefront of technology development and wide-scale adoption.”

Cybersecurity solution providers are focusing on vulnerability assessment in addition to traditional security features. With most cyber security solutions only able to identify an attack after considerable damage has been done, the research emphasizes that it is essential to spot and nullify threats at the point of inception.

“The integration of futuristic technologies and mechanisms such as predictive threat analytics, machine learning, and network and device behaviour analysis will quicken the march towards proactive cyber security solutions,” Thakurta added. “The convergence of neural networks, machine learning, and predictive analytics will further lay the foundation for a plethora of next-generation cyber security solutions.”
