Honeywell announces formation of Digital Transformation unit

New unit to leverage machine-to-machine communications expertise to improve data collection and management, cyber security and advanced software development.

Honeywell Process Solutions (HPS) has established a new business unit to help manufacturers harness the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).

The new Digital Transofrmation unit is intended to help manufacturers more rapidly deploy technologies that will allow them to better manage and analyze data, making their operations safer, more reliable and more efficient.

Andrew Hird has been named vice president and general manager of Honeywell’s new Digital Transformation unit. Hird most recently served as HPS’s global vice president of sales, where he gained exposure to customers in industries ranging from oil and gas and mining to power generation, and pulp and paper. Hird has more than 20 years of industry experience, including 12 years with Honeywell.

“Honeywell is in a unique position of being the recognized leader in automation and control room solutions for a wide range of process industries, plus we have advanced knowledge in connectivity with OPC UA, cyber security and advanced software development,” Hird said.

OPC UA is Open Platform Communications Unified Architecture, a machine-to-machine communication protocol.

HPS’s IIoT solutions utilize Honeywell’s software infrastructure to enable customers to capture their big industrial data in a secure portal that can be scaled to meet the varied needs of single-site or enterprise-wide operations.
