Jervis B. Webb to host FIRST LEGO League scrimmage and demo on Nov. 9

Following competition, students will explore the company's automation equipment in effort to build STEM skills.

Jervis B. Webb Company, a subsidiary of Daifuku Webb Holding Company, will be holding a FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology)  LEGO League scrimmage and demonstration on Saturday, November 9, 2013, at Jervis B. Webb Company’s demonstration facility in Wixom, Mich.

The mission of FIRST is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) skills.

“As a top provider of automated material handling systems such as automatic guided vehicles, we are thrilled to be supporting such a great program,” said Ken Hamel, president of Jervis B. Webb Company. “We strive to encourage future engineers to continue their education in science, math and technology; and FIRST is a great resource.”

Two teams will participate in the scrimmage. Both are coached by Jervis B. Webb Company employees. One team is sponsored by Trinity Episcopal Church in Belleville, Mich., and is coached by Dave Anderson from Ypsilanti, Mich. The second team is sponsored by St. William School in Walled Lake, Mich., and is coached by Dan Emond from West Bloomfield, Mich. Following the scrimmage, Jervis B. Webb Company engineers will showcase the company’s automated equipment and explain how it works to the students.
