Pallets: Ongweoweh hires director of unit load technology

Bisha joins the pallet company from Virginia Tech's Center for Unit Load Design.

Ongweoweh, an industry leader in pallet sourcing, implementation and management, announced the addition of Jim Bisha as Director of Unit Load Technology. Bisha, who is a native of Upstate New York, received his B.S. in Packaging Science from the Rochester Institute of Technology (R.I.T.) and his PhD. from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech). While at Virginia Tech, Bisha focused on distribution packaging at the University’s Center for Unit load Design, under the mentorship of Marshall White and Ralph Rupert.

Bisha is working with Ongweoweh’s customers and vendors to develop distribution packaging systems that meet customers’ requirements which are minimalist in design, reduce cost and environmental impact, and therefore create stronger business partnerships. “I look forward to helping Ongweoweh become a full circle unit load solutions provider. If you have a problem with distribution packaging, whether our products are directly involved or not, we will help you solve it,” says Bisha. The distribution packaging analysis will include all elements that comprise a given unit load, including but not limited to, stretch film, bags, buckets, corrugate, pallet design, lumber species, nail selection and material handling processes. “Our goal is to provide a logical problem-solving investigation and a complete resolution in the most productive manner possible,” he adds.

The Unit Load Technology Department is the latest of several strategic moves that Daniel Bonamie, President/CEO, has made to shift the company to a distribution packaging solutions provider: “This department, along with Jim gives us the credibility and expertise to provide real answers for our customers.”

Bisha enhances Ongweoweh’s ability to conduct a thorough onsite evaluation of all distribution packaging and every one of the different processes that are used to handle the unit load. The evaluation will result in a comprehensive written assessment of the material handling systems, suggested solutions and cost savings.

Ongweoweh Corp was founded in 1978, by Frank C. Bonamie, a former chief of the Cayuga Indian Nation of New York State. From its humble beginning as a pallet manufacturer in Bonamie’s garage, Ongweoweh has grown to over $150 million in revenues, while servicing Fortune 500 and privately owned companies throughout North America. In the past five years, the company has more than doubled in size, providing additional value, local opportunities and national cost savings. Today, Ongweoweh continues to grow at a rapid pace with the second generation stepping into the forefront of the company. In keeping with the ideas and traditions that were instilled by its founder, Ongweoweh continues to be family owned. His leadership carries on the Vision of Integrity, Respect, Accountability and Stewardship which was established almost four decades ago – and remains as the Core Values of Ongweoweh Corporation.
