Student Day: Students unlock their futures at Modex 2024

On Wednesday, high school and university students and educators will be introduced to career opportunities in material handling, supply chain and logistics through hands-on learning and networking with industry professionals.

On Wednesday, high school and university students and educators will be introduced to career opportunities in materials handling, supply chain and logistics through hands-on learning and networking with industry professionals.

Organized by MHI in partnership with Warehousing Education and Research Council (WERC), College Industry Council on Material Handling Education (CICMHE), Material Handling Equipment Distributors Association (MHEDA) and the Material Handling Education Foundation (MHEFI), Student Day at MODEX will be bigger and better than ever in 2024.

According to JoAnna Leon, director, WERC membership and MHI-CICMHE, more than 500 students (up from 305 at the last Modex show) will have the opportunity to tour the exhibition and get a firsthand look at the latest in supply chain technologies. The interactive event is designed for college, university, trade, technical, specialty, and high school students.

The day's highlight is the guided tour of the Modex 2024 show floor, led by industry experts, and the opportunity to meet with exhibiting companies looking for future employees and gain a real-world understanding of the products, services, and technologies that enable the supply chain. Students will walk away feeling inspired and empowered with a broader network of professionals who can support their career goals.

In order to accommodate the larger number of students, there will be 50 booth stops and more than 100 participating companies. “We’re pretty much doubling our footprint across the board for the daylong event,” says Leon, who adds that the schedule is also “flipped” in that the keynote event takes place in the morning, followed by the show floor events in the afternoon.

Student Days will also feature some of the past Mahaffey Scholarship winners, who are coming to talk about their experience, share tips on how to fill out the scholarship application and talk about the benefits they’ve received from their scholarships. There will also be a student design competition, with the winners being announced and presented with their awards on stage (this is new for 2024).

“Our program is geared towards the students and what they want to see,” says Leon, who adds that each student will stop and visit at least 10 different companies while on the show floor. “At the end of the day, we’re going to give them a way to contact and submit a resume to those companies, and we’ll also let them know which schools and/or companies are offering internships or apprenticeships.”
