UPS announces global expansion plans for UPS My Choice

UPS My Choice gives consumers a one-day alert for when a package is coming and allows them to control the timing and location of the delivery.

Earlier today, global transportation and logistics bellwether UPS rolled out global expansion plans for of UPS My Choice offering.

UPS My Choice gives consumers a one-day alert for when a package is coming and allows them to control the timing and location of the delivery. It helps both the consumer and UPS, because it makes it unlikely that UPS will not be able to make a delivery on the first stop or make multiple attempts to deliver a package. UPS My Choice debuted in 2011. UPS My Choice members that can track the progress of their UPS Air and UPS Worldwide Express packages on a live map through mobile devices or computers.

UPS My Choice is now available in 96 additional countries and territories, which UPS said brings the new total to 112. Among the new regions and territories where it is now available are Africa, Asia Pacific and the Indian Sub-continent, Caribbean and Central South America, Middle East, and Oceania. UPS said that this is the largest expansion since My Choice made its debut, adding that membership for this service is at more than 52 million globally. This marks a significant expansion, when considering it was initially available in a 16-country and territory footprint.

Phase one of today’s announced expansion was for 48 new global locations this summer, and Phase two is comprised of another 48 countries and territories, kicking off this month and slated for completion before the end of 2018.

“Every UPS My Choice user will have access to e-mail notifications that a delivery is on its way, an alert the day before delivery with a delivery-window estimate, notification that package is out for delivery, and a notification that delivery is completed,” said Nando Cesarone, president of UPS International, in a statement. “With this expansion, shippers can benefit from fewer customer inquiries and missed deliveries, while consumers enjoy increased visibility and, in many cases, the opportunity to adjust delivery dates and locations.”

UPS said that this announced expansion also includes actionable text alerts in many countries and territories for greater convenience when managing deliveries. It said that in countries where technology allows delivery change options, users can route packages to UPS Access Point locations, send them to another address or opt for delivery on another day. There are currently more than 28,000 UPS Access Point locations worldwide, which include independently owned and operated businesses that offer customers a convenient and safe place to pick up shipments on their schedule.
