APICS and Deloitte collaborate to launch supply chain student competition

Competition to empower students to explore forward-thinking topics, covering end-to-end supply chain, logistics and operations management.

APICS, a professional association for supply chain management, in collaboration with Deloitte Consulting LLP, has announced the 2017-2018 APICS Case Competition, a series of global case competition events designed to expose college and university students to the supply chain and to career opportunities in the industry.

This month, teams comprised of two to four students will compete at their colleges and universities for a chance to attend regional case competition events beginning in February 2018 at Deloitte’s offices in Atlanta, Ga.; Chicago, Ill.; Costa Mesa, Calif.; Mexico City, Mexico; Parsippany, N.J.; Toronto, Canada; and Shanghai, China. There will be an additional location in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Regional finalists will compete and a winner will be announced at the APICS Case Competition taking place during the APICS 2018 conference Sept. 29 - Oct. 1, 2018, in Chicago.

The 2017-2018 APICS Case Competition aims to empower students to explore forward-thinking topics, covering end-to-end supply chain, logistics and operations management. APICS and Deloitte will collaborate on the design of case problems throughout the series and judging the regional case competition events and the final round. APICS staff and volunteers will join Deloitte professionals to facilitate the events and serve as mentors and judges for each case competition event.

“Supply chain, logistics and operations management are among the fastest-growing career fields, which is why APICS works with more than 10,000 student members to provide scholarship opportunities and other unique programs,” said APICS CEO Abe Eshkenazi, CSCP, CAE, CPA. “Offering hands-on, real-world challenges, case competitions are the ultimate value chain learning experience. We look forward to working with Deloitte to promote supply chain strategy, tactical skills and knowledge through the 2018 APICS Case Competition.”

“Technology and innovation continue to impact the way the supply chain operates, creating great opportunities as well as complex challenges, so it’s critical to attract future leaders with the skills and drive needed to succeed,” said Doug Gish, principal, Deloitte Consulting LLP, and supply chain and manufacturing operations practice leader. “Deloitte is pleased to team with APICS to help students prepare for exciting and meaningful careers in supply chain operations.”

Practitioners in Deloitte Consulting LLP’s supply chain and manufacturing operations practice and APICS staff will judge student presentations at the regional and final events, providing students with direct feedback and insight into the industry. The prize money pool will total $5,000 for the first-, second- and third-place teams of the final round. There is also a prize money pool of $2,500 for the schools of the first-, second- and third-place teams.
